Messianic Prophecies: A New Circumstantial Argument (S&S Version)

Do the Messianic prophecies in the Jewish Old Testament prove that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah and that Christianity is true?  During my time at S&S, I initiated a 4-part series on the issue of Messianic Prophecies whereby I attempt to outline a new approach to this area of study.  This argument is not necessarily based on fulfilled prophecy directly, but more from the fact that there is remarkable circumstantial situation whereby we can prove that either the Jesus of the New Testament fulfills the OT Messianic Prophecies or else no one has/can.  This unique circumstance in and of itself is enough to warrant that Jesus must be the Jewish Messiah and therefore Christianity is the one true religion of God.

In the first of four episodes, I look at two Messianic prophecies related to the birth of the Jewish Messiah; these prophesies include the so-called “Virgin Birth” prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 and the divine Messiah born to the house of David from Bethlehem in Micah 5:2.

Messianic Prophecies: A Circumstantial Argument (Part 4)- The Timing of the Messiah (Daniel 9 & Haggai 2)

In this 4th and final S&S episode on Messianic Prophecy, I finish off my minimal case by arguing that the Jewish Messiah must come prior to the destruction of the Second Temple in  70 A.D.  We address Daniel 9 and Haggai 2 to prove that the Messiah had to come by that time to fulfill his mission in part before that time.

2 thoughts on “Messianic Prophecies: A New Circumstantial Argument (S&S Version)

  1. Here is the lecture by Dr. Brown mentioning the Painting that Joyce provided in Part 2 = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4v8yssXnIE

    I also want to clarify somethings;

    1. So my circumstantial argument works by establishing the there are only two equally probable options- Jesus or Bust and thus if David or a skeptic can prove that the Bust option is more probable than not, than this would count against my argument as a negative consideration. Fortunately, no one has been able to convincingly do that.

    2. Also, I do think that one can make an argument from Messianic Prophecy proper via Isaiah 53 and other verses the predict the Messiah’s Rez and then proving the fulfillment that Jesus did rise from the dead (probably) via something like the Min Facts approach or something- this is one exception that I can think of so I was mistaken when I said I can’t argue messianic prophecy in a proper fulfilled prophesy type argument at all.
